I can't believe that June is already here! Things are getting busier and busier as we approach the end of the year, with many special activities and changes to the routine. This time of year can make some students feel a little bit anxious, since their predictable routine is changing or about to change. I will do my best to keep you informed of any special events or activities, and you may want to talk to your child about what is happening at school, and what they can expect for the summer vacation.
As we near the end of the year, we have been wrapping up many of our units and I am doing a lot of 1-1 assessments. This Wednesday I sent home your child's orange evaluation duotang to look at some of the work I have assessed. Please take some time to look them over, sign each evaluation, and then return the duotang to school.
We have been working on story writing for a few weeks now. Students have practiced writing different types of stories, including repeating stories, pattern stories, and narrative stories with a problem and a solution. We have also been working on revising our own writing to check for periods and capital letters.
In math we have been working on fractions (wholes, halves and quarters), and on symmetry. Students have completed drawings to make them symmetrical, folded different shapes into halves and quarters, painted symmetrical butterflies, and created a fraction pizza.
In science we have been learning about sources of energy, and ways we can substitute different energy sources when needed. We have also been learning about living things and their needs, and we have been making observations about the caterpillars who have joined our class. We are excited to watch them make their cocoons and turn into Painted Lady butterflies!
Today I will be sending home permission forms for two field trips:
Dates/Times for next week:
Monday: Library Day
Tuesday:
Wednesday:
Thursday: Pow Wow forms/money due
Friday: PA Day - no school for students
Homework:
Reading: 10 minutes each night
Math: Prodigy
Have a great weekend!

Today I will be sending home permission forms for two field trips:
- On Tuesday, June 14th, we will be visiting the public library again to learn about how to be safe during the summer holidays. We will leave the school at 10:10, and will return around 12:00. We will need 4-5 parents to accompany us on this trip.
- On Monday June 20th, the whole school will attend the Summer Solstice Pow Wow at Vincent Massey Park. The Pow Wow is free, so the only fee is the bus. This is a whole-day trip and we will need 4-5 volunteers to accompany us on the trip. Permission forms and money for the Pow Wow are due by Thursday June 9th at the latest.
