This week we did a lot of review of our previously learned sounds. We practiced finding them in our reading, making sentences, sounding out and spelling words with the sounds and playing games with the sounds. We will be having a dictée (spelling test) on these sounds next week so please practice the list of words I am attaching at the end of this blog post.
Most students presented their magic trick this week, and we all enjoyed seeing what our classmates have learned! Some students are still having trouble using French vocabulary to explain what they are doing, so you may want to practice this at home while performing small activities around the house (e.g., je fais..., j'ajoute..., je mélange..., je mets..., etc.). I will be sending home rubrics with the marks from the presentations next week once all presentations are complete.
With our Grade 6 communication buddies this week, we started to make a comic strip story using the BitStrips for Schools online program. Students loved creating their own avatar and working on their story! We are working on ensuring our stories have a problem and a solution.
In math we have been working on time. We made clocks using paper plates, and are learning to read the time to the half hour (e.g., 6:30, 8:00, 12:30, etc.). We are also starting to understand which times on the clock correspond with different parts of the day (morning, noon, afternoon, evening, night time, etc.).
In science we have been learning about different sources of energy, and what types of things are powered by each energy source. We have started to learn about which energy sources are better choices for the environment.
Monday will be the last day to contribute to the Spring Food Drive for the Kanata Food Cupboard. All non-perishable food donations are appreciated!
We will be holding a battery drive to recycle your old batteries next week. Please send in any batteries that need to be recycled.
